The Birth Story
Ethan surprised us by coming 4 weeks early. The morning of March 13th I noticed clear liquid. The midwives said to come in if it continued through out the day. It didn't stop, when they said to come in we were on a rampage hurrying to pack the hospital bag- just in case. We still didn't think this was it yet. We got to the hospital and sure enough, it was amniotic fluid. They said they wanted to induce right away and put me on antibiotics since I hadn't had the Strep B test yet (usually done at 37 weeks). I didn't agree to be induced yet, but I was admitted and started the antibiotics.
In the Labor and Delivery room I was hooked up to the baby monitor.
Unfortunately I had to be monitored constantly. They were hoping to do
the wireless, but it wasn't working. So I had about 7 feet to be in the
whole time (including the bed.) I started having mild contractions
that at one point were 2-3 minutes apart. They slowed down, and we
still ended up inducing the next morning at 11:00am. I wasn't excited
about being induced- I like things to go as natural as possible, but it
felt right after a prayer so I was okay with it. Ethan was on his way
and just needed to come!
My parents hopped in the car and drove to be here. Grandpa was able to be here for "The best birthday present ever." Ethan was born on Grandps'a Birthday.
The contractions started kicking in more at noon. The Hypnobabies techniques we had practiced were working like a charm and everyone was talking about what a great team Jon and I made. Thank you sweetie! At one point I received a blessing and after that I could only feel about every other contraction for 7-10 of them. I almost fell asleep! What a nice break hu? Then at 6:08 Ethan Joseph Hill my sweet little bundle boy was born. He came out crying right away and it was a beautiful sound. All together, the labor was 22 hours long. Most being very mild until the last 6 hours.
Recovery is going well which I believe to be going quicker than with Breeze.
We had my Mom and Dad there for two weeks and Grandma Nene there for one. Alan was able to be there for the last couple days to pick up Renee. I just want to say thank you to the Grandparents. It was so wonderful to have you there. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the help you gave!!!
Ethan was called a Late Pre-Term baby and that required him to be in the hospital for the first five days which he was fine and healthy for. 5 Days after we went home, however, we went for our first ambulence ride because he needed to be on oxygen. He was on that for about 5 weeks.
Sister. . .
Breanna was doing well with the change until family left. For 3 weeks she was still getting attention from Grandparents. once they were out of the picture the jealousy set in. She said; "Mommy, how long are we going to keep baby brother?" That wasn't the only time she asked. So we went and got her own baby to take care of with a stroller, carrier, bed, milk- the works.
Now that she's coming around we have to tell her to get off of him all the time. She can love him a little too much sometimes. I find it's either one or the other. Jealousy or smothering love, I'm sure as time goes on we'll all find a nice balance. It is hard to give her the attention she needs right now. Something new to get used to. Breanna loves to help and I love it when she does. She is always grabbing a blanket for me, wiping off brothers mouth when he spits up. It is very cute. She likes to share her toys with him too.
